Text Box: From the desk of the Executive Director,
This has been an incredible year for the Miss Placentia Scholarship Program. The contestants competing in the Miss Placentia Program have merged with the contestants competing in Placentia’s Outstanding Teen Program and is has been a wonderful experience for all involved. Many of the residents of Placentia have commented how it is difficult to tell the difference between the two sets of contestants. They have become sisters and mentors at the same time. There are many new friendships forming which seem to be destined for a lifetime of kindness and generosity towards each other.
Our committee continues to astound me. We are growing in volunteerism but we always welcome new committee members. We have a new Treasurer, Linda McLean, who joined our committee last year. She is also the Judge’s Chairman for Placentia’s Outstanding Teen Program. Janet Martin is also a new committee member, who fills a variety of roles, basically wherever we need her. Thank goodness for these two ladies! Gloria Shkoler is the Director of our “Little Sisters” program and doing a fantastic job. She has formed her own committee of volunteers and together they have planned a Tea Party and Pizza Party for the Miss Placentia contestants and their little sisters. It truly is a bonding experience for all involved. Associate Executive Director, Jocelyn Williams is Superwoman! She can leap tall stacks of paper with a single bound and all the while she has a smile on her face. She is a full time wife and mother, all the while traveling for her job. She is truly amazing. Lee Castner is back stage again this year and very much in control of all that goes on there. Gary McGinnis is our Sound Engineer and Tara Guthrie  (Miss Placentia 1998) our Producer work so diligently to make sure our contestants look and sound their best on stage. Mary Bette is director of Pageant Affairs and oversees all of us only because she has manned every one of our positions, so we appreciate her expertise. She is always my sounding board and I take advantage of her experience frequently. Alicia Myers is our House Manager, overseeing the night of the pageant, which involves security, our visitors and guests, ticket and program book sales and anything else that needs her attention. Deedee Snyder is our Contestant Coordinator, which involves the mock interviews and the contestant’s appearances on stage. She is committed to the contestants being prepared for their interview as well as the on-stage competition. We have a new choreographer this year, Sabrina Lawrence, who competed in our program in 1995. I cannot tell you how pleased we are to have a former contestant participate with our 2007 contestants in this capacity. Mark Williams is our new program book editor and has willing volunteered for this momentous task. These people are the reason for the success of our program in Placentia.
The City of Placentia and Mayor Constance Underhill, the Placentia Chamber of Commerce and President Glenn Baldwin, and the Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District and Superintendent Dr. Dennis Miller, play an integral part in the success of the young ladies in our community who participate in this program. AS a result of their support and commitment to our program and the contestants, we have been able to offer over $111,000.00 in scholarships over the last thirty-one years! Thank you on behalf of all of the young ladies who participated over these past years.
Jolie LaCroix and Lauren Brady, our 2006 titleholders, have been excellent representatives for our community. Their appearances are too numerous to mention but I can assure you, they are known in this active community as young women who are committed to Placentia. For me, it has been a privilege to be their Executive Director this past year. I wish them well and God’s Blessings for they are truly remarkable young women.
“Once Upon a Time…”there were 22 young women who desired to be Miss Placentia and Placentia’s Outstanding Teen. Sit back and enjoy the wonderful show developed by Tara Guthrie, and see who will be our new titleholders.
Thank you all for attending and supporting our 2007 contestants,
                     Kathryn E. Baldwin Home
