Farewell continued

I was the little girl who wanted the remote control Jeep for Christmas instead of the doll my Nana wanted me to have. I wanted to do cartwheels and jump on the trampoline in the backyard rather than play dress up in the house.  I never fantasized of having a crown on my head. I just wanted a ponytail to keep my hair away from my face.  So you can imagine my surprise, in October of 2009, when my older sister informed me that she had signed me up to compete in the Miss Placentia/Yorba Linda’s Outstanding Teen Pageant. I smirked at the idea of being in a crown and gown and thinking it wasn’t really my thing. The months to follow, involved dinner workshops, rehearsals, and mock interviews. I began to realize that I actually enjoyed the idea of being a princess and if crowned, I would be thrilled and honored to take on the responsibilities of being a city title holder. On January 16, 2010, I was blessed with the opportunity of being crowned Miss Yorba Linda’s Outstanding Teen. I give this program, and all my supporters, credit for the amazing transformation I have made from the girl I was then, to the young women I am now.  I will forever be grateful to the Placentia/Yorba Linda committee for their faith in me and all their support and encouragement along the way.  Kathi and Glenn Baldwin, thank you for hosting the workshops and for being there for me when I needed that extra support. Lynda Krinke, Jocelyn Williams, and Karen Urell thank you for taking me shopping, doing my hair, and all of the style advice that you have ever given me (they are lessons I will keep with me forever).  Jordan Krinke, you are an amazing dancer. I loved dancing with you and preparing for my new talent. Thank you for choreographing my routine. Lynn and Mary Bette, driving with you both to Fresno was so much fun. I loved listening to your wise words and many stories. Sharon and Patrick Cordes, you two are an amazing team and together you have strengthened my interview skills and confidence in stressful and nerve-racking times. I thank you so much for everything you have done for me.

Farewell continued

To my sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Redman of Health Insurance Made Simple, I’m truly grateful for all your supportive and encouraging words and emails. It was so much fun getting to know you and your family. Finally, I would like to thank my family for all their encouragement, support and unconditional love; as with that I have harmony in my life and I thank you. But this is not goodbye for me, as I have met some of the most inspiring and gracious people I will ever meet in my life. This is just the beginning of a new stepping stone in my journey and I will continue on with the knowledge and courage I have gained from this experience. I pass my position onto another young teenage girl, with the hopes that she will experience personal growth, priceless memories, and accomplishments to be cherished for a lifetime.

Forever and Always,

Elizabeth Luper
