My year as Miss Placentia has been an exhilarating and eye-opening journey. This program has given me countless opportunities to grow and has provided me with the strength and confidence I need to succeed. However, none of this would have been possible on my own and I must thank all of the wonderful people who have supported me throughout my year as Miss Placentia. First, I would like to thank the city of Placentia. I was not born in southern California, but I have found a home in this loving community. Since the moment I decided to run for Miss Placentia I have felt warmly embraced by the people of Placentia. To my wonderful committee, your words of encouragement and advice have helped me more than you can know. I proudly went to the Miss California Pageant knowing that I had the best committee possible! I am constantly learning by the shining example you set. Kathi Baldwin, you are an outstanding inspiration to me. Your drive and strength are constantly motivating me to push myself to greater heights. The love and support that you and Glenn have shown me is irreplaceable. The depth of your family's generosity, warmth and determination is extremely rare in this world and I am extremely lucky to have experienced it. Paul-Dean and Janet Martin and the Young Actor's Workshop: you have gone above and beyond being great sponsors. In addition to traveling all over to see me perform, throwing me my very own bon voyage party, and getting me own personal trainer, you have been wonderful friends and allies. To John Vrahnos and his amazing staff at Body Tone Fitness: thank you so much for your generous gift. Thanks to your training I went to Miss California feeling stronger and more confident than I ever thought I could be in front of a huge crowd wearing only a swimsuit. Your advice and encouraging words will be with me always. Jocelyn Williams, you are my rock! in addition to being a fantastic friend this year, you have kept me on track mentally and emotionally. Your direction in preparing me for the Miss California Pageant allowed me to be my very best self in out of competition. Karen Urell, your expertise and honesty are invaluable to me. You taught me how to venture outside my fashion comfort zone while still staying true to myself. The many shopping adventures we took with Jocelyn were so valuable and left me feeling fabulous! Mary-Bette, your shining face and constant belief in me has always made me feel loved. Your warmth and kindness forced me to always have faith in myself. Miss Placentia's Outstanding Teen, Sharon Kong, you are an amazing young woman. I could not have asked for a greater companion to laugh with in our many adventures. You have been a magnificent friend through everything and have helped me keep my sanity during this crazy year. You are a constant inspiration to me and I know that you will continue to do great things with your life. I would also like to extend a special thanks to Gary McGinnis, Jeremy Yamaguchi, Lee and Mary Castner, Sabrina Lawrence, Tara Guthrie and the Rotary club of Placentia. It is because of these and so many others that this pageant succeeds year after year. Finally, I would like to thank my friends and family. You have supported me throughout all my endeavors. Whether I'm the leading lady or in the back row of the chorus, you are always cheering me on. Through all my successes and failures you have made me feel like a star. I could not be where I am today if it wasn't for your love and care. To the 2009 contestants, I am so proud of all of you for taking part in this journey. I know that any one of you would represent the city of Placentia with grace and dignity. And so the new Miss Placentia, this will be a year you will never forget. An opportunity like this comes once in a lifetime so enjoy every minute of it. This has been an extremely rewarding year filled with memories I will treasure forever. With much love and thanks,
Julianne James

February 2, 2008, was and still remains the most memorable day of my life. I never would have dreamed that this kind of blessing would be bestowed upon me. I am proud to be a representative of the City of Placentia, especially at the Miss California Pageant where I received the honor of being named 3rd Runner-up to Miss California's Outstanding Teen. This program has let me grow a great deal while being able to aptly participate in other programs I enjoy. I have been able to bring my platform, Rachel's Challenge, Starting a Chain Reaction of Compassion, to Placentia and hopefully will continue doing so. Also, the Miss Placentia Program has let me exercise my speaking ability and expand it as well, which makes my Speech and Debate teachers happy as well. I would just like to thank the City of Placentia and everyone who is a part of it for letting me be a part of your lives.
