"The winner of a $3,500 scholarship, and the title of Miss Placentia 2003 ... contestant number five, Lianna Prout!" Those words still remain in my mind, bringing back feelings of excitement and disbelief. The night of the pageant reminded me of when my sister, Giovanna, had won the title of Miss Placentia 1999. I had followed in her footsteps, although I would have never guessed it. It was hard to believe that I was the new Miss Placentia. I was thrilled to begin my journey as Miss Placentia 2003. Instantly I was invited to the city of Placentia with open arms, and couldn't have asked to represent such a wonderful, loving community. As Miss Placentia, I was honored to attend events throughout the year such as, Chamber mixers, Rotary meetings, delicious breakfasts, grand openings of our local businesses, holiday celebrations, and much more. At every event I was able to meet an array of welcoming community members who made each event pleasurable and exciting. Along with the many events I was able to attend, I had the job of representing our city in the 2003 Miss California Pageant. Within the two weeks that I was there, I met many wonderful talented young women. As the days went on, these ladies became my very good friends, and made the trip much more calming. The Miss California Pageant not only introduced me to many lifelong friends, but also awarded me with a additional $1,000 scholarship and taught me life lessons that I will never forget. I have learned so much from the "pageant life" and have used each lesson to guide me in my everyday life. -
